Promotion materials which include posters, signages and other informative materials used for selling or advertising the various cigarettes have been stripped around the Municipality of San Jose de Buenavista last June 25-26, 2018.

This initiative was spearheaded by the Local Government Unit of San Jose in the administration of Mayor Elmer C. Untaran under the program of the San Jose – Municipal Health Office in compliance to Municipal Ordinance No. 2017-10 (An ordinance adopting Executive Order No. 26) of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, “Providing Establishments of Smoke-Free Environments in Public and Enclosed Places (known as Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003). On the other hand, this is also to heed the 1987 Philippine Constitution under Article 2, Declaration of Principles and State Policies Section 15- “State shall protect and promote the right to health of the people and instill health consciousness among them.”

Then again, advertising and promoting tobacco products, and electronic cigarettes or other similar devices is not allowed within 100 meters from any point in the perimeter of schools (Mun. Ord. No.2017-10,Sec.5).

Furthermore, this guarantees the enjoyment of the right of every citizen to breathe clean air.

It was heartwarming to note that various agencies have offered their voluntary service in support to “Operation Baklas” such as the San Jose-Philippine National Police, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Barangay Officials and even the owners of business establishments and the general public.
